10 thoughts on “Considering the Cinema Ep. 023: Encore – Another Top 10 Movies of the 2010s Decade Show

  1. I went and bought Incident in a Ghostland today after listening to this episode. I can’t wait to watch it, I’m debating whether I watch it by myself or with my wife.

  2. Great Lists guys. I really like Blade Runner 2049, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs & Wreck-It Ralph for this. What’s really intriguing is your HM/11-20 Lists are as a whole almost sneakily stronger. No doubt your TOP 10’s earned their spots but those secondary lists have some incredibly fun and memorable standouts. Good Stuff.

  3. Jay,
One of my few goals during this quarantine is to watch your entire list-except the ones starring anybody named Affleck since I can’t stand those guys. I’m starting ‘The Battery’ now!

  4. Hi Jay – Excellent show!

Thanks for reminding me about Oblivion. I still haven’t seen it, and it’s back on my radar now.

Lots of great lesser-known titles, including the weirdly-titled Incident in a Ghostland, Locke (yes!) and that chestnut I first heard about from you on a bonus episode of MPW–The Corpse of Anna Fritz.

I departed the corporate lifestyle back in 2014. That, and being an introvert, has weirdly spared me of the worst from COVID-19 so far. My income has been diminished, yet so have my costs. I have three new stories that are scheduled to be published this year, though there is no telling what kind of delays my publishers will have to navigate to get those out. I’ll consider myself lucky if all three of them see the light of day before we start 2021.

On a more serious note, in a callback to episode 21, I too am lamenting the loss of seeing new movies in the theater. Of all the luxuries we have put on pause because of the outbreak, that’s the one I miss the most. I think the last movie I saw in the theater was Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. A good one, though I’m pretty sure that was technically released last year.

In any case, I’m glad you’re releasing episodes to get us excited about movies again that we can see in our homes. It helps.

    Best,
    Victor

  5. Great lists. I never did stop and put one together for the decade, but I suspect that Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life would be at the top of it for me. I loved seeing so many Villenuve films so high on the list, especially Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. So psyched for Dune when it releases.

I also have to wonder if a newer film, Ad Astra, wouldn’t also have a shot at my list once I’ve had a chance to sit with it longer. I loved it in the theater, but it’s been growing on me since then.

Remember being shocked in the theater at how good Perks of Being a Wallflower was, and Apollo 11 was also a great choice. Honestly, these are all strong lists.

  6. Great show! Was nice to hear Jay and Dr Shock together again. Feverishly writing my to watch list, excited for the recommends. Battery and Locke are up next. Incident in a Ghostland I’ve watched and agree an excellent, creepy film.

    • Wow, Nomar! Thank you so much! I have wanted to watch this film for years. I can’t believe I never tried looking for it on YouTube. I really appreciate it.
      -J
